人類運動行爲的表現，千變萬化，即使每天反覆從事的運動，也不會有兩次一模一樣的動作，因此運動中的變異，是運動行爲研究中的重要課題之一。運動技能表現，通常以動作結果的低變異性作爲觀察創量的特徵，因此在運動控制的研究中，常使用標準差(Standard Deviation)或變異係數(Coefficient of Variation)量化動作變異。但是由於使用這些統計參數的前提及限制，加上在人體運動的過程中，多種不同的變異來源，在採用探討變異性的工具前，應予審愼選擇。本文經由變異性的性質及內容，討論變異在運動中代表的不同意義與運動技能的關係，並在探討傳統檢驗變異量方法的限制後，介紹分析變異量非線性的概念及方法，提供未來研究的新方向。
