心率是一個非常便於偵測的數值，可作為監測心臟對運動反應的簡易指標，最大心跳率被廣泛使用於相關疾病族群的臨床診斷、運動耐受度及復健運動處方。傳統最大心跳率預估公式（220-年齡）有較大的誤差（高估或低估）現象，可能無法反應實際的心臟負荷量。心肌梗塞是臨床常見的心臟疾患，心肌梗塞後的運動訓練的安全性及有效性顯得特別重要，特別是運動強度的設定。文獻回顧建議，經由實際檢測之最大心跳率，作為設定運動強度的基礎較為適當。而當實施運動測試的檢測設備欠缺或限制下，發展急性心肌梗塞病患特定最大心跳率預估公式是有其必要性，提供臨床設定運動處方時的替代參考依據。
