The effect of tourists' cognition of climate change on tourism behavior has been a contentious debate in recent decades. Based on the construal level theory, this study aimed to examine the influence of tourists' psychological distance (abstract and concrete cognition) to climate change on their intention to revisit a coastal destination using climate change knowledge as a point of consideration for their destination decision-making. A total of 317 valid questionnaires were collected from on-site tourists in Little Liuqiu, Taiwan. The results indicated that climate change knowledge is an important factor in the emergence of revisit intention under climate change and is influenced by both stable internal beliefs (abstract cognition) and uncertain external environment (concrete cognition). Therefore, the study suggests that climate change instability introduces more variables and challenges to tourists' destination decision-making, requiring tourists to be more psychologically prepared for changes in the external environment to realize their travel behavior. |
