此研究之目的在驗證加入六種「實境教材」(歌曲、故事、廣告、自我閱讀、菜單及兒童書信)運用在臺灣補習班教育課程後之成效。此六個月的實驗調查中提供了很寶貴的意見,描述性統計、t-test和ANOVA也都驗證了這些「實境教材」對學生在補習班的學習確具成效。本研究採用之工具是具可靠性、有效性且有公信力的英語測驗來驗證此六種「實境教材」的成效。研究樣本包括在台灣的七位英文老師及七間英文補習班共152位學生參與此項研究(九十五位學生參與對照組,五十七位學生參與實驗組),結果指出實驗組及對照組在考試成績上確實有明顯之不同;實驗組學生之考試成績高於對照組學生之成績乃因使用了「實境教材」為另一輔助教材。本研究之結果顯示出「實境教材」是寶貴之教學資源且應該被廣泛地使用在補習教育中,此項研究之結果可幫助補習班的領導者及老師們設計適當的課程來改善補習班教育的成效及教學品質。

英文摘要

The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of adding six types of authentic materials (songs, stories, ads, self-readings, menus, and children's letters) in cram schools in Taiwan. The six-month experimental investigation provided great insights and examined how these authentic materials affect the cram school effectiveness by analysis of descriptive statistics, t-test, and ANOVA. A reliable and valid instrument based upon the results of a content validity test measured the effectiveness of authentic materials. The population sample consisted of seven teachers of seven cram schools in Taiwan, and a total of 152 students who participated in this study (95 students were in the control groups and 57 students were in the experimental groups). The findings indicated that there were significant differences in the test results between experimental and control groups. The test results, after three months and six months, were different because of adding six types of authentic materials into cram schools' curricula. Students' test scores in the experimental groups were higher than the control groups because of using authentic materials as an alternative assessment. The findings of this study indicate that authentic materials are valuable teaching resources and should be used in cram schools. The findings can help both cram school leaders and teachers to plan appropriate curriculum to improve cram schools' effectiveness and teaching quality.
