This study discusses the Taiwanese teachers' and EFL students' attitudes toward six types of authentic materials (songs, stories, advertisements, self-readings, menus, and children's letters), selected from the authentic sources and designed by the researcher for this experiment as an alternative assessment. The purpose of this study was to examine teachers' and students' attitudes toward authentic materials in learning English at cram schools. The population sample consisted of seven teachers at seven cram schools in Taiwan, a total of 152 students participated in this study (including 57 students in the experimental group; 95 students were in the control groups). Data analysis showed that both instructors and students had positive attitudes toward adding some authentic materials into cram school curricula. The six-month experimental investigation provided great insights in the use of authentic materials in the cram schools by analysis of descriptive statistics.
