Scholar Yuanding Zha migrated to Taiwan from the Zha family residence in Haining, Zhejiang. Zha was extraordinarily knowledgeable, but his stories and works require further exploration and supplemental information, which were examined in this study based on three dimensions: (a) Zha's genealogy and relevant literature were analyzed to clarify Zha's pedigree, courtesy name, honors, and offspring; (b) Zha's works were examined. The content of Draft Poems of Tsaotsao Thatched Cottage 《草草草堂吟草》, which was written by Zha, was discussed and the origin of the book title was analyzed. Other available works that Zha wrote (e.g., "Collection of Seal Carving Patterns Regarding Baishou" 《百壽印譜》 and "Collection of Seal Carving Patterns Regarding Sikong Tu's Ershisi Shipin" 《司空圖廿四詩品印譜》) were explained in detail regarding the intricate circulation and preservation process used; (c) The reasons why Zha stayed in Taiwan and never returned to his hometown were analyzed. Zha's hometown was continually subjected to wars caused by the Taiping Rebellion. Additionally, Zha encountered obstacles in his career development as a government employee and was consequently in poverty. As stated in his works, he could not return to his hometown without achieving anything; therefore, he migrated to Taiwan. Based on the research conducted by other scholars and relevant historical data, Zha's life story and background was supplemented in this study.
