中文摘要

This article assesses security studies in international relations by focusing on borderland states' strategic strategies in regional political orders. In order to explore borderland states security choices, we trace elements of different factors and argue that these factors constrain states' policy choices. Borderland states across Europe and Southeast Asia evince a tendency of follower of geopolitics, and this plays a significant role in determining how borderland states choosing their security choices in the face of regional powers. Due to inherited nature of saving independence from external influences we then argue that borderland states are forced to re-consider security strategy in the face of power competition. States may tend to strengthen their bids with ally in responding external threats or choose to comply with the source of threats. The research tries to explore borderland states' strategic choices in Europe and Southeast Asia.
