The original report on which this article is based was prepared for Skills Australia as part of a project to develop a national workforce development strategy that will ensure that Australia has the knowledge and skills (and the workplaces in which to fully utilise them) that will ensure the country's future economic competitiveness and social welfare in the future. Using as a starting point three global scenarios for 2025 developed in 2005 by Shell International, the possible future shape of Australian workplaces and the nation's potential knowledge and skills requirements are drawn out.
