Chen, Chih-wu (1952-1997)'s contribution to Community Empowerment and the Historical Preservation thinking in Taiwan is related to his life experience. In the context of the preservation of Taiwan's cultural assets and community empowerment in the 20th century, he was influenced by Shiy, De-jinn, Han, Pao-te and Hsia, Chu-chiu in the cultivation of academic and personality. He struggled and accumulated experience in his life course, and finally carried out his social practice for several years in Tamsui community studio. His teaching on Modern History of Architecture in the Department of Architecture in Tamkang University is unique, leaning to the left-wing architectural history and paying attention to the discussion of how capitalism and modernity influence the history of modern architecture. His academic contribution to the study of community empowerment and architectural history, in addition to the methodological reflections on the study of residential space, cross-cultural theory and ecological models, and the reflection of urban spatial transformation, the most important thing is to think about the community empowerment and historical preservation in Taiwan. The viewpoints, including the preservation of Taiwan's historic sites, should be viewed in the context of Taiwan's special historical context. The concept of community historical preservation is to confront de-historization, de-community and authoritarian systems and urban historical preservation should be linked to social movements.
