英國實施公醫制度，70%的醫師是一般醫(GP)，提供90%的醫療照護，其中的5%會轉診給專科醫師，在英國GP是一個專科很類似國內的家庭醫師，唯執業的範圍更廣。英國的國家醫療服務由NHS(National Health Service)統籌，其下有三大系統包括提供服務、教育訓練和研究發展；為達成目的有許多機構或組織例如NSF(National Service Framework)提供醫療服務，BMA，RCGP(British Medical Association, The Royal College of General Practitioner)設立醫療品質標準，Deanary, MMC(Modernising Medical Career)及最近成立的PMETB(Postgraduate Medical Education and Training Board)負責教育訓練。
