e-Problem based learning (e-PBL) has been developing in recent years as an innovative learning strategy. Learners in distant placement, in different schools within a country (inter-school), in different countries (international), or in different professional backgrounds (inter-professional) can learn collaboratively on the web under the supervision of tutors. However, e-PBL also has many limitations. Reliable infrastructure, a user-friendly system, technical support, budget, and most importantly, collaboration of faculty staff and students are essential for the success of e-PBL. Our experience of international PBL and inter-professional PBL indicates that e-PBL is feasible and effective in some specific learning contexts. We should utilize e-PBL wisely, and tailor this innovative learning strategy to each educational context for maximizing the learning outcome. |
