本研究利用新發展的幸福感與生活滿意度測量指標，測量臺灣與香港地區一般民眾的幸福感狀況，並探討有關婚姻與主觀幸福感的理論意涵，比較兩地幸福感測試結果。資料來源為2010年12月在臺灣與香港同時進行的「社會意向」電話訪問調查資料。幸福感與生活滿意度採用了國際幸福指數（International Wellbeing Index, IWI）作為測量兩地民眾婚姻與生活滿意度以及幸福程度的依據；去除樣本的遺漏值，最後分析的樣本數分別為台灣1,238人、香港1006人。根據線性統計迴歸分析，研究主要結果顯示：（1）女性與男性相較，有較高的幸福感；（2）臺灣與香港地區個人的婚姻狀況對於自評的幸福指數的影響力逐漸消失，但離婚則有較低的幸福感；（3）自我認同的社會階級對於個人的生活幸福感較為重要，社會階級越高，幸福感越高；（4）此外，個人對於社會公平認知、社會中對他人信任、未來社會、經濟發展是否樂觀與個人社會網絡相關的五個變項，對於個人自評的幸福指數有較大的影響；（5）個人收入與是否接受大專以上教育程度，雖然是測量社經地位的重要指標，但與受訪者的主觀幸福感無明顯關聯。
