西方的客體關係理論與華人的關係理論彼此相通也互異，前者以個人主義為中心，後者則以關係主義為中心。本文嘗試從文獻回顧與臨床病例研究心得中，提出一個關係取向的理論模式，並檢討關係理論的臨床意涵。根據華人文化人類學與社會心理學者自1940年代所發展而成的關係理論，「關係」的利害在於它影響人際交往、人情面子、權利義務、與人生意義等華人的心理行為與價值體系。其後果影響到當事者的健康幸福甚至生死命運。其理論模式的基本假說是患者的主觀人生意義價值信念中，活著的目的是為了家人，為了與他或她形成共生關係的最親密他人而活。換言之，其個人的價值乃由「關係己」決定，而「關係己」的生死命運則依存於其共生關係體。本文以憂鬱症病患有自殺企圖者為例，探討關係理論應用在臨床上，特別是心理治療，的可能價值與意義。

Western object relations theory is individual-centered, while Chinese object relations theory is guanxi-centered. This paper compares theoretical models of guanxi-oriented and individual-oriented psychotherapy. A construct based on guanxi theory called the ”relational self” is proposed to interpret psychopathology. The value of guanxi theory to clinical psychiatry are discussed.
