Recently, many countries are trying to protect agricultural environment by financial support or restrictions against anti-environmental activities. Korean government is trying to reduce any environmental pollutions from the surplus of chemical fertilizer, agro-chemicals and livestock manure. The government has accepted the policy of sustainable agriculture since the early 1990s. By the implementation of this policy, consumption of chemical fertilizer is gradually reducing, but far from the government goal. To facilitate the reduction of chemical fertilizer use, government try to use livestock manure more efficiently as nutrient sources. But, the government is very cautious about using waste for composting. Those materials are required to be inspected for composting. The government is focusing on continuous inspection for commercial fertilizers and on education for the people who engaged in fertilizer industry. Making sound compost from organic waste and appropriate use of compost for crop production are important in terms of environmental protection and food safety. Production of organic waste in different industries is monitored and their value as a raw materials for composting should be carefully examined. Consumer’s trust for agricultural products comes from continuous effort on fertilizer quality. Especially, grading policy, maturity standard and recommended compost input in crop production etc. will be established in future.
