比爾‧艾斯克羅福特等人指出，被殖民者在獨立後一般運用兩種方法來避免母語走向滅絕－挪用、或拒絕殖民者的語言。這篇論文探討蕭麗紅與胡長松如何在他們的二二八小說《白水湖春夢》和〈槍聲〉中挪用或拒絕北京語，來挑戰北京語的霸權地位、反應台灣多語言的真實情況、和振興台語。雖然兩位作家有其共同目標，但是他們採取不同的策略來達成他們的目的。由於在作品中，兩人提供給讀者不同種類與數量的語言協助，兩位作家顯露了不同程度的政治企圖心。蕭麗紅為台語註釋，胡長松將北京語翻譯與台語文本並列。他們的策略也反應了台語所面臨的困境。

Bill Ashcroft and others assert that to prevent the native languages from dying out, after independence the colonized generally resort to either the process of appropriation/subversion or that of abrogation/rejection of the colonial language. This paper explores the ways by which Xiao Lihong appropriates Mandarin and Hu Changsong rejects Mandarin in their respective 228 story to challenge the monopolistic status of Mandarin, reflect the multilingual reality in Taiwan, and promote the language of Holo. Although sharing these common aims, they adopt different strategies to achieve their goals. By offering different types and amounts of assistance to the reader, these authors reveal different political agression. At the same time, their strategies also reflect the difficult situation Holo is facing.
