中文摘要

Background: Traditional continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) is an effective replacement therapy for end-sage renal disease patients. Decreased manual exchange times and enhanced quality of life have been emphasized since automated exchange systems developed. The Quantum peritoneal dialysis (PD) night exchange system was designed to shift one convenient than CAPO for the patient. Methods: To evaluate the impact of the Quantum PD system on patients, we prospectively conducted the study with 16 CAPD patients. The patients used the new system for 4 months, and then were given a questionnaire to evaluate the machine. Associated clinical laboratory data for all patients were checked before use and 4 months after. Results: Out of the 16 patients, nine of them (six men and three women, age 38 ±13years) used the machine for more than 4 months and completed the questionnaires. There was no significant difference between pre-use and post-use of the Quantum PD system in KT/V urea, weekly creatinine c1earance, hemoglobin, serum BUN, creatinine, albumin, calcium, or phosphate. The noted advantage of using the Quantum PD system was an improvement in lifestyle (P< 0.05), although no improvement in feeling healthy. The reported disadvantages included uncomfortable sleep due to machine noise and tube vibration during exchange (P<0.05). The leading cause of drop-out for 7 patients was machine noise. Conclusions: The Quantum PD night exchange system can improve quality of life without change in PD efficiency. Machine noise can affect the quality of sleep and therefore should be improved.
