夏目漱石『心』一書中的「我」,在學生時代,不知如何處理寂寞,在感情上想接近同情「我」的老師,但「我」的家人根本就不想理解那種情況。因爲父母親期待我大學畢業後,與活躍在社會上的哥哥一樣就職,不但能夠活躍於社會上,並且獲得高薪。另一方面,哥哥無法理解絲毫不活躍於社會上的老師,眼見父親即將不久人世,將管理家裏的工作強迫加給身為二兒子的「我」,作為補償要分給我相稱的遺產,作者將那對答過程呈現在讀者面前,如同暗示著老師在遺書上所寫的,有關家裏遺產繼承的絕望狀況。在本稿中,除了想要對於「我」所自覺的寂寞,做更深層面的考察外,並就與「我」有顯著差異, 按照父親所期待的形式,成為社會一員的哥哥作對比性的論述,並希望能夠考察兩者之間,以何種形式表現出與老師的經驗重疊之處。

英文摘要

While the narrator in Sôseki Natsume's Kokoro found it difficult to deal with loneliness in the course of his student life and sought to approach Sensei, who was sympathetic with respect to such emotion, the family of the narrator did not attempt to understand this state of affairs. This is because the narrator's parents expected that he would graduate from university and follow in his older brother's footsteps by commencing his working life and functioning actively in the real work of earning a high income. At the same time, while the narrator's older brother, for whom Sensei-a completely nonfunctioning member of society-is incomprehensible, seeks to impart a reasonable portion of his father's estate to the narrator for compelling the narrator as the second son to take on the task of managing the family home in the face of the imminent death of their father, this exchange serves to project onto the reader a hint of the hopeless situation surrounding the inheritance of the family home as inscribed by Sensei in his will. In this connection, in this paper I will deepen my investigation into the state of loneliness of which the narrator is aware and explore in a comparative manner the narrator's older brother, who-in sharp contrast to the narrator-functions as a member of society in line with the expectations of his father and would like to examine the sense in which the circumstances of the two characters are shown overlapping the experiences of sensei.
