這篇論文旨在探測儒家哲學在心理學上的意涵，基本上是兩位作者所發表的三篇英文論文的撮述。第一篇是劉述先於一九九二年在香港中文大學舉行的「中國人心理治療」國際研討會發表的一篇主題演講：〈儒家治心之心理治療功能〉。第二篇是兩位作者於一九九五年在中文大學舉行的首屆亞洲社會心理學協會會議發表的論文：〈現代主義，後現代主義，現新儒家思想－心理學典範轉移與價值的歷史回顧與批評檢討〉。第三篇是兩位作者於一九九七年在日本京都舉行的第二屆亞洲社會心理學協會會議發表的論文：〈互相關連與亞洲社會心理學〉。我們相信，如能給與傳統儒家的理念如：「理一分殊」與「天人合一」以全新的闡釋，應該可以在「典範轉移與價值」成爲問題的今日，爲心理學探索一條可能的途徑，並盼這樣的哲學思考在心理學上産生某種類似他山之石的效用。
