課程史學者稱H. Rugg一生是二十世紀美國課程改革教育意識型態的縮影:科學化課程建製,兒童中心教育以及社會重建論。如此的歷史評價,足見其思想在二十世紀課程領域中佔有舉足輕重的地位。而Rugg認為個人美感經驗所產生的統合性力量,乃是邁向社會統整不可或缺的工具,此種欲結合「個人」與「社會」的論述,也成為其獨特之處,而為後世課程學者所關注。本文即由四個焦點進行探究:一、了解Rugg生平;二、從四大美學理論探究Rugg美學旨趣;三、認識影響Rugg思想的當代前衛藝術家;四、探析Rugg創造性自我表現思想,以深切地了解Rugg之美學論述。

英文摘要

”Rugg's career virtually represents in miniature the panorama of educational ideologies that characterized twentieth-century curriculum reform in America: scientific curriculum making, child-centered education, and social reconstructionism.”, appraised by the curriculum historian, H. M Kliebard. It proved the significant place of Rugg in curriculum history. His special opinions that creative art experience, because of its integrity-producing power, was an indispensable vehicle for social integration, indicated a implication that we needed a theory which will embrace the coordinate concepts ”the social” and ”the individual”. The purpose of this article explored the thoughts of H. Rugg, including 1)introducing his life history ; 2)inquiring the four theories of aesthetics for analyzing Rugg's aesthetic interests; 3)acquainting the contemporary avant-garde artists whom Rugg associated; 4)understanding the thoughts of Rugg's creative self-expression.
