字彙在英語四項基本能力聽、說、讀、寫中扮演著關鍵的角色,學校教育應包含豐富、多元的英語單字教學活動。將反義字融入英語單字教學活動可以有效的提昇學生的字彙能力;然而,有關反義字方面的實驗研究卻是少之又少。本研究的目的是為反義字教學增加實證上的資料,此研究的實驗設計為重複量數的2x2變異數分析,實驗設計中的兩個因子為完成句子以及呈現反義字,自變數為教學方法,依變數為後測的分數,後測中所測驗的單字全部都是實驗中所教授的單字,實驗中的教學方法有四種:傳統教學法,傳統教學法加上完成句子,傳統教學法加上呈現反義字,傳統教學法加上完成句子再加上呈現反義字(又稱為傑努西恩法)。實驗結果指示出呈現反義字在統計上有顯著的效果,除此之外,本文也討論反義字如何幫助學生學習英語單字。

英文摘要

Vocabulary plays a significant role in listening, speaking, reading and writing. Rich, multifaceted, and encompassing English vocabulary teaching activities should be implemented in our schooling Incorporating antonym into vocabulary teaching activities can effectively enhance students' vocabulary knowledge. However, there has been a paucity of experimental studies on antonymy. The purpose of this study is to add to the limited information in this field. The experimental design for this study was a 2x2 factorial structure for repeated measures (the within-subject design). The two factors in this design were sentence completion and display of antonyms. The independent variable was the teaching method and the dependent variable was the score on the posttest, containing exactly the same words taught in the experiment. There were four methods in this experiment: the traditional method, the traditional method plus sentence completion, the traditional method plus display of antonyms and the traditional method plus sentence completion plus display of antonyms (called Janusian thinking method). The results indicated that the main effect of display of antonyms was statistically significant. How antonym helped students learn vocabulary was also discussed.
