從性別特質的發展脈絡上可以理解運動場域中雖然有著獨特的性別呈現，主要的性別概念依舊受到外在大結構社會性別價值觀的制約。因此本文目的是希望藉由對目前社會對性別的定義，探討所衍生出的社會結構因素對於女性參與運動的影響，包含性別刻版印象、性別污名化、運動項目性別化等，並試圖瞭解女性之所以在運動場上較男性「弱勢」的原因，並從年齡發展的觀點討論社會期望與社會壓力如何形塑女性之運動參與。希望能夠藉著此一探討，發現並界定女性和運動參與之間那面隱形牆形成的因素與時間，加以協助並教育，才能讓女性擺脫社會期（歧）望的束縛，盡情地在運動場上展現女性的自信與美麗。
