健康識能是指「一個人獲得,處理和理解做出適當健康決定所需的基本健康訊息和服務的能力程度」。很多的研究證實,健康識能是影響一個人健康的重要因素。健康識能不足者是不良健康結果的高危險群,低健康識能也與高的醫療成本與花費有關。健康識能的問題不只在個人本身的能力,亦受到健康照護環境訊息的複雜度與困難度的影響。解決民眾健康識能的問題,可從醫療健康照護機構以及專業人員提供民眾健康識能友善照護著手。本文主要的目的介紹健康識能概念的演進,並說明醫療健康照護機構與醫療健康專業人員如何提供健康識能友善照護。

英文摘要

Health literacy refers to "the extent of an individual to the capacity of obtaining, processing, and understanding of the basic health information and services required to make appropriate health decisions." Many studies have confirmed that health literacy is an important factor affecting a person's health. People with poor health literacy are at high risk for poor health consequences. Shallow health literacy is associated with higher medical costs and expenses. Apart from the issue of health literacy influence a person's ability there is also the affection from complexity and difficulty of health care environment information. In order to resolve the matter of people's health literacy, we can start from health care institutions and professionals to provide friendly care and resolve people's health literacy situation. The main purpose of this article is to introduce the evolution of the concept of health literacy, and hence illustrate how healthcare organizations and healthcare professionals can provide health-literate friendly care service.
