In recent years, owing to the advancement and popularity of digital technologies, some adjustments regarding the methods of school education and professional training in the workplace had been made. Especially in nursing education, the development of digital technology has brought new opportunities and initiated challenges. As nursing education emphasizes the importance of individual case management, in the procedure of operation, it is essential to understand the situation; the cause of the issue; and the way to deal with it; in order to make a correct judgment and arrangement. Meanwhile, during the process, apart from knowledge and experience, managing skills are also considerably important. In addition, the effectiveness of nursing education is directly related to the safety of patients; therefore, during the intensive training process, several restrictions need to be taken into account due to safety considerations. For example, for the cases with higher risk, trainees usually require supervision over a longer period of time before they have the opportunity to be trained and practicing. The constraints of these practical factors often increase the time cost of training nursing staff. The introduction of new digital technologies can solve these problems; for example, the application of virtual reality allows trainees to experience a case in a safe environment, learn to handle the case, and receive immediate feedback. Apply the appropriate digital technology can reduce the risk of training, save labor and time costs, and even increase the effectiveness of the training. The purpose of this paper is to introduce emerging digital technologies directly related to nursing education and to illustrate the benefits of these technologies for the development of nursing personnel through practical examples of their application. It is hoped that this paper will enable more medical institutions and nursing schools to understand the potential of emerging technologies in the nursing field and further improve the quality of nursing personnel training and the service quality of medical institutions in Taiwan.
