This article reviews and comments on important issues of selective attention. The text is divided into three parts: (1) the characteristics of selective attention, including why, where, and how, the selection occurs; (2) the basis of selection, especially, the space-based vs. object-based debate, including the behavioral, physiological, neuropsychological evidence for both sides; and (3) the critics and integrative views provided by the authors.
