During the past two decades, the resonance theory in haemodynamics has given a scientific explanation for meridianes, acupuncture points, five zang-organs with six fu organs and the five elements theory; therefore, the physiology, pathology, and pharmacology of Chinese Medicine may be well explained by current physic and mathematics. The discussions on the role of affect in Nanjing ”five zang-organs store seven spirits” illustrates that the five zang-organs provide the basis of resonance for six fu organs. Meanwhile, the resonance in circulation system maintains the function of brain and creates affects and spirits. The meridian system based on circulation system (containing material, energetic and informational functions) serves as the foundation of other systems, including the neural system, emerging affects, and the mind. Almost all physiological and psychological functions can be decomposd into the resonance frequency of the twelve meridians, which is obtained from the blood pressure wave with Fourier transform. Given that ”habitual behavior” can be discovered by analyzing the excess or deficiency of the twelve meridians, the pathological or pharmacological effects on mentality can be detected objectively. For more than two thousand years, the essence of Chinese Medicine has been the integration of the physical, mental, spiritual, and behavioral, as dictated by the principles in the classical ”Huangdi Neijing.” ”Five zang-organs store seven spirits” implies not only that the physical creates the mental, and material creates spirits, but also ”Dao creates one, one creates two, two create four, four create eight trigrams and eight trigrams create everything.” |
