中文摘要

The purpose of this correlation study was undertaken to identify those variables related to quality of life among primary caregivers of stroke patients. A purposive sampling was used to obtain one hundred subjects from one teaching hospital outpatient neurology clinic, one teaching hospital rehabilitation department and Taipei Home Nursing Unit. Data including demographic characteristics, stroke patient functional status, primary caregiver stress, social support and quality of life were collected by questionnaires. Statistical procedures included a descriptive statistics, one-way ANOVA method, Pearson product-moment correlation and stepwise regression analyses. The results of this study were as follows. 1. The primary caregivers had a middle level of quality of life. The ”family” aspect ranked the highest while the ”health” aspect ranked the lowest. 2. The primary caregivers' stress perception and the need of social support showed significantly negative correlation with the quality of life of caregivers (p<.01). In contrast, the adequacy of social support showed significantly positive correlation with the quality of life (p<.05). 3. The most important predictive variables for the primary caregivers' quality of life were caregivers' stress perception, affective relationship with patient, patients' sex and self-perceived economic status, which explained 48% of variance of caregivers quality of life. Caregivers' stress perception was the strongest predictor for the quality of life. Based on the research, researcher suggests nurses take care of patients with ”family” base. In this way, to decrease the stress perception of caregivers and increase quality of life, nurses could provide caregivers with necessary information and usable utility resources.
