法國詩人維克多．謝閣蘭（Victor Segalen, 1878-1919）一生的主要作品均在旅居中國期間寫就。其中，他作於1909年的短篇小說《頭》（La Tête）以在山西五臺山和黃土高原的考古經歷為靈感來源，是他本人最得意的作品之一。然而，該篇小說從整體結構、敘事手法到立意均與眾不同，尤因其詭譎的情節向來被研究者視為畏途。本文試將此小說置於十九世紀下半葉以來歐洲批判宗教、崇揚科學的大潮之中，結合法國文學描寫斷頭的傳統，通過詳細的文本分析，解讀謝閣蘭所追求的「神秘」之美，以及在自我與他者的碰撞中實現解脫之道的途徑。

French poet Victor Segalen (1878-1919) conceived the majority of his writings during his trips and short stays in China. Among his masterpieces, the short story entitled The Head (1909) was inspired by his archaeological field trip covering Mount Wutai in Shanxi Province and the loess plateau, and was one of his favorite works. Despite the originality of its structure, style and idea, its unusual plot makes it so difficult to approach that researchers have remained silent on it. This essay tries to interpret the story in consideration of its historical background - the trend of breaking down religious idols and replacing them with the worship of science that swept Europe during the late nineteenth century. By referring to the tradition of literary representation of decapitated heads in France, and through textual analysis, we try to unveil the beauty of ＂Mystery＂ that Segalen pursued all his life, and unpack the key to Deliverance, which takes place when one collides with another.
