中國戲劇從宋元南戲、元雜劇到明清傳奇，經歷諸多變化。這些變化的戲劇學意義，前賢多有研究。然而，20世紀中國戲劇的變遷軌跡及其研究，除集中於話劇的引進以及政治層面的變化之外基本上付之闕如。本文試圖彌補這一空白。

Chinese opera underwent dramatic changes over the course of Chinese history from the Song dynasty to the Yuan, Ming, and Qing Dynasties. Many art historians have studied the changes in Chinese opera, however the studies are all concentrated on Chinese opera before the 20(superscript th) century. On the other hand, the few studies done on 20(superscript th) century Chinese opera are usually devoted to the introduction of modern drama in Chinese opera or the impact of modern Chinese politics on the development of Chinese opera. This essay hopes to fill in the gap and pioneer a new direction in the study of 20(superscript th) Century Opera.
