本研究的目的如下：(一)了解國中小校長的工作；(二)了解國中小校長的責任；(三)了解國中小校長的角色；(四)了解國中小成功校長的人格特質；(五)了解國中小成功學校的特色；(六)了解國小校長及國中校長的領導角色是否有差異。 研究方法如下：以九十一學年度台灣地要國中小的校長為研究對象，以抽樣產生寄回問卷的國小校長100名，國中校長25名，國中校長25名，當研究樣本。研究者文獻探討後，發展出重測信度0.85，效度相關係數0.76~0.85間可以接受的13個題目問卷，電子郵寄受調查者。用SPSS 10.0統計軟體分析資料。用T測驗來檢驗資料。 結果發現：校長不但要負責學校行政，也要負責學校領導。一位有為的校長必須有效地、卓越地、成功地處理學校事務。國小校長與國中校長對於問卷中的問題看法一致性頗高，並無顯著差異。
