Sang Yue (1447-1503), who lived in the early middle period of Ming Dynasty, was seen as one member of the critics advocating the revival of the ancient poetic. Also Sang's two prefaces for Gao Bing's (1350-1423) Tangshi pinhui provide fascinating material to the Chinese literature scholars in relation to this anthology's publication and circulation. This paper examines Sang Yue's life, companionship and his works, and further, explores his special theory of restoration poetry, which was historically and practically different from contemporary mainstream thought.
