晚清基督教中文報刊《小孩月報》所建構的兒童形象及意涵

明清之際，西方傳教士進入中國，為了傳播福音的緣故，常透過辦理報刊或介紹醫療科學等模式，達到傳教的目的。《小孩月報》是晚清傳教士范約翰所創辦，第一份專以「兒童」為主要閱讀對象的報刊，十分具有特色與代表性。然而，回顧歷來研究，多討論對報刊新聞史角度或是對版本的溯源與考辨，本文嘗試從剖析文本的方向，發現報刊主要內容可分為「宗教倫理」與「知識見聞」兩層面：透過「宗教倫理」的內容為兒童形塑一套基督宗教式的道德行為標準，並將中國傳統價值觀轉化成為立論根基，降低讀者排斥心理，達到宣教目的；藉由「知識見聞」醫學、科學、地理等的介紹，一方面開拓兒童視野，搭起認識世界的窗口，另一方面卻也彰顯出中國發展的遲滯與落後，承繼過往傳教士「科學知識」輔教的宣教策略，使《小孩月報》具啟蒙意義卻也呈現濃厚宗教意味。

In the Ming and Qing dynasties, Western missionaries came to China and, for the sake of spreading the gospel, often preached through newspapers or medical science models. The Child's Paper was founded by John Marshall Willoughby Farnham, a missionary of the late Qing dynasty. It was the first newspaper dedicated to ＂children＂ and it was very distinctive and representative. However, most of the research is based on the history of the press. In its attempts to analyze the text, the paper found that the main content of the press can be divided into two levels: ＂religious ethics＂ and ＂the knowledge aspect＂, The content of ＂religious ethics＂ helps formulate a set of standards of Christian religious morality for children and transform the Chinese traditional values into the foundation of our arguments, reducing readers' psychology of rejection and achieving the goal of propaganda. Through the ＂knowledge＂ in medicine, science and geography, the Monthly opens up children's horizons and sets up the window through which to understand the world. On the other hand, it also emphasizes the lags and stasis of China's development, In inheriting the former strategy of ＂science knowledge＂ mission, The Child's Paper took on a profound significance of inspiration while demonstrating a strong religious meaning.
