This research aims to understand the current situation of professional capacities of physical education teachers in secondary schools in Kaohsiung County and explore the difference in current situation of professional capacities of physical education teachers in secondary schools in Kaohsiung County with different background variables. This research treats the physical education teachers in public and private secondary schools (including comprehensive high schools) in Kaohsiung County as the targets and manages the survey with census. There are totally 296 questionnaire distributed and 262 valid questionnaires in return (return rate of valid questionnaire is 88%). Based on the data acquired, the researcher uses statistical methods such as descriptive statistics, factor analysis, t-test, one-way ANOVA for analysis. The research conclusions are as follows: 1. The current professional competency level of Kaohsiung County middle school P.E. teachers were, in a descending order, ”Affection Cultivation”, ”Teaching and Knowledgement”, ”Guidance and Evaluation”, ”Competition Management”, and ”Administration”. 2. There were significant differences on professional competency levels among P.E. teachers with different marital, age, seniority, position, school-type, or certification status.
