The Chung-Chin Textile Company donated its historical equipment, the Tompkins knitting machine purchased in 1949, to the National Science and Technology Museum (NSTM). In addition to the knitting machine, NSTM also acquired circular knitting machines, flat knitting machines, and stocking machines from school and textile industry. The operation pictures and owners' description of above mentioned technical objects have provided useful information to study how domestic knitting industry to develop business and upgrade their equipment to become more competitive. And these technical objects can help NSTM to design educational programs and exhibits for the public to know more about textile industry. The findings were stated as followed: 1. Establishment of metadata for textile collections Metadata were built from knitting technologies, history and specialties of industries which served not only as resources for museum exhibition and education, but also as references to set up museum strategies and standards for acquiring objects from textile industry. 2. Application of textile objects for museum exhibition and education By using cases of textile industrial heritages in England and Japan to discuss the development of museum exhibition for domestic textile objects in Taiwan and through hands on activities and films of interview, the precious innovative technologies contained in these textile objects can be revealed in the real labor productivity scenes in Taiwan. 3. Further exploration for more themes of museum exhibitions and education In forming domestic knitting technologies, the Pai Lung Machinery Mill Co. Ltd. was taken as an example to discuss how it faced international challenges by using advantages to create its own unique values.
