近年來,臺灣各大學的英文教育策略已然改變,在教育部的要求下,英語能力已經成為大學教育成功與否的另類指標,學生通過英語能力檢測的人數,也成為教育部每年對大學補助款評鑑的指標之一。為了求得更佳的評鑑結果,各大學多已訂定學生英語能力的畢業門檻,以期學生在英語學習上更有主動性與積極性。此論文主要研究2008年義守大學大一新生之英語能力,針對新生入學的學測與指考英文成績做一分析探討,以了解學生在入學時所具有之英語程度。此外,本研究也同時探討2008年義守大學與NETPAW網路英檢合作,將英語檢測機制引進校園後,針對大一新生所作之英語能力檢測,由學生參加英語檢測之項目、人數、屬性與分數進行統計與分析,期藉由分析的結果,可以幫助英語教師制定出一套適合且有效提昇學生英語能力的教學方式。

英文摘要

In recent years, the strategy of English education in Taiwan's university has been changed due to the new policy set by Ministry of Education. The student's English ability becomes an important indicator which is used to determine whether the school's education is successful or not. The number of student passing the English proficiency test also becomes an important impact factor which could affect the amount of fund that the school can be subsidized from the government. In order to obtain a better evaluation, most of universities have set the basic graduation threshold of English ability to their students. This threshold setting is expected to have the function which is able to inspire students in English learning. This paper mainly studies the English ability of I-Shou University freshmen in year 2008 based on two examinations, i.e. subject capability and specified subject provided by the college entrance examination center. In addition, the study and analysis about the English proficiency test offered by NETPAW for the freshmen at the same year are also done. In our research, some statistical analyses based on test item, the number of test student, the attribute of student and the test score are presented. We expect that this research result can help English instructors of school to develop the better English teaching method in their teachings.
