Among the silk books unearthed from Han Tomb no.3 at Mawangdui, Changsha, Hunan, there were four types of ancient Guyi books appeared before the silk book Lao tze, and were works on Huang-lao thoughts. Those books have drawn the attention of scholars. The naming of the four silk books of Huang-lao is referred to as ”Four Silk Books of Huang-lao from Mawangdui” in this study, in order to illustrate their academic characteristics. Thus, it is not the original name of the books. ”Four Silk Books of Huang-lao from Mawangdui” are regarded as important writings on the study of Huang-lao in the end of Warring States and early Han Dynasty. Based on the available data, they could not be proven the The Four Classics of the Yellow Emperor included in Hanshu•Yiwenzhi.
