《靈樞．經別》闡述黃帝與岐伯的問答建立十二經脈的基礎。例如五臟與五音相應，六腑與六律相合。以六律（十二律）所建立的十二經脈就會符合一年十二個月份、十二個時辰、十二個節氣、十二條大河、十二經脈陰消陽長的規律。這段話結合了古代的天文學、音律學和曆法，對於探究十二經脈理論的過程發展而言深具參考價值。因此，在本節筆者試圖藉由當時的天文學及音律學推論十二經脈與音律和曆法的相關性之由來。

The chapter "Ling Shu Jin Bie" (《靈樞．經別》) of Huang Di Nei Jing mentions that "people have five organs which correspond to five sounds, and have six organs which correspond to six voices. With the theories of Six Voices twelve meridians were built." Hence, this essay tries to discuss how the twelve meridian system might have been built according to the Chinese musical theories of five sounds and six voices, "Wu Yin Liu Lu" (五音六律).The theory of "Wu Yin Liu Lu" integrates with the thought of time, and has something compatible with the theories of calendar (曆法) and astronomy. The musical instruments were used to examine the different Qi of different months. With the thought of "correspondence between man and universe", "Wu Yin Liu Lu" correspond to twelve organs and twelve meridians. Thus, every meridian has its own length and Qi. People could quantify Qi in each meridians, and built the system of twelve meridians.
