Background: In our target mixed daycare center for disability and dementia, our observations revealed that it was difficult for the staff to promote interaction between the older adults during planned leading activities and provide accurate feedback afterward. This was due to different degrees of cognitive function among the older adults. Even though the older adults' participation rate for the activities was nearly 70%, most of them tended to just watch on the sidelines or complete activities by themselves. Purposes: This study aimed to enhance social interactions and cognitive stimulation of older adults in a daycare center through designed interactive activities and by providing positive feedback immediately afterward. Thus, it could delay the progression of weakness, disability and dementia. Methods: We conducted a literature review; then, we formulated strategies aimed to improve social interaction among older adults. We put the key interactive element of "cooperation" into activities, such as cognitive training, art therapy, physical activities, etc., and grouped the older adults based on their cognitive function and personality for activities. Results: Interactive courses increased from 48% to 58%, older adults' active behaviors increased from 59.69% to 64%, and passive behaviors decreased from 33.73% to 29%. In addition, the opportunities for peers to know each other increased from only 1- 3 people, gradually increasing to 5-7 people. Conclusion: The interactive group activity programs increase social interaction for older adults in a daycare center.
