費茲傑羅在《大亨小傳》中運用對比象徵技巧的目的是要呈現夢境的美好和現實的邪惡的主題。書中兩種主控的色彩是藍色和黃色，它們分別代表夢境和現實這兩個世界。蓋次比的心靈是由藍色的象徵所掌控，而湯姆和黛絲則是受到黃色力量的支配。從兩個世界的對比，我們可以看出蓋次比的夢是不畏現實的影響的，雖然在他被殺時，夢境隨著幻滅，但它卻像道綠光般，傳達給我們生命的訊息。

The purpose of this paper is to study Fitzgerald's manipulation of the symbolism of contrast in The Great Gatsby. He exhibits the theme of the contrast between fair in dream and foul in reality. Blue and yellow are the two dominant colors in the book, which represent the world of dream and the world of reality. Gatsby’s mind is dominated by the representation of blue while Tom and Daisy are controlled by the power of yellow. From the contrast of the two worlds, we know that the dream of Gatsby is incorruptible. Although the dream disillusions when Gatsby is killed, it is like the green light transferring to us the message of life.
