The doubly-fed induction generator systems transfer the main part of electric power to the three-phase ac lines via the stator, and do the control at the rotor. Via the back-to-back converter, the rotor-side-converter and the grid-side-converter with common dc link, connecting the rotor and the grid, the functions of back-to-back converter are controlling the stator complex power and transferring minor part of wind power. For unbalanced three-phase grid, the DFIG can be controlled for two different ways, fed power in balanced stator three-phase voltage, or fed power in balanced stator three-phase current. The consequences of previous two methods are the rippled torque and the unbalanced three-phase stator current, respectively. The rotor-side-converter feeds the exciting current to the rotor of DFIG, and thus to manipulate the stator current control. The control modes of the proposed control system are: ‧Three-phase balanced stator voltage mode, three-phase unbalance power may occur either the grid or load is unbalanced. ‧Three-phase balanced stator current mode, the three-phase stator currents are balanced, and the three-phase rotor currents are unbalanced. ‧Three-phase balanced bus current compensation mode, the DFIG will compensate the unbalance current of the load on the bus, and the total bus current is three-phase balanced. Both the three-phase stator currents and the three-phase rotor currents are unbalanced. Experimental results are provided to validate the performance of the proposed DFIG unbalanced control system.
