目的：過去研究指出樂觀者容易吸引社會支持且有較低憂鬱症狀與自殺意念，悲觀者則相反，本研究使用老年榮民探討上述變項之間關係。方法：141位來自台灣北部一所榮家60歲以上之住民完成了樂觀與悲觀量表、老人社會支持量表、簡短版老人憂鬱量表、自殺意念量表。結果：統計分析指出，樂觀透過社會支持的中介對自殺意念有間接效果，樂觀透過憂鬱症狀的中介對自殺意念有間接效果，悲觀透過憂鬱症狀的中介對自殺意念有間接效果，然而，悲觀與社會支持之間的關係未達顯著，社會支持與憂鬱症狀之間的關係未達顯著。結論：本研究結果部分支持過去的發現，本研究對老年榮家住民的自殺意念的預防的實務意涵將一併於文中討論。

Objective: Previous studies have indicated that optimistic people tend to attract social support and have lower level of depressive symptoms and suicidal ideation. Whereas, pessimistic people are just the contrary. This research utilizes the elderly residents in veterans home to explore the relationships among the above-mentioned variables. Method: 141 residents over 60 years old recruited from a veteran home in north Taiwan completed the Scale of Optimism and Pessimism, the Social Support Scale for the Elderly, the Geriatric Depression Scale-Short Form and the modified Scale for Suicide Ideation. Results: Statistical analyses indicated that social support mediated the relationship between optimism and suicidal ideation. Depressive symptoms mediated the relationship between optimism and suicidal ideation. Depressive symptoms mediated the relationship between pessimism and suicidal ideation. However, the relationship between pessimism and social support was nonsignificant. In addition, the relationship between social support and depressive symptoms was nonsignificant. Conclusion: The results of this study partially support the previous findings. The practical implication for the prevention of suicidal ideation in elderly residents in veterans home is discussed.
