Purpose: This study aimed to compare the exercise dependence among aerobic dance participants with different levels of body satisfaction and self-presentation motivation. Methods: The study followed a cross-sectional design. Participants were randomly sampled from eleven fitness centers located in Kaohsiung who enrolled in the aerobic dance classes. After providing informed consents, participants were asked to share their opinions of body satisfaction, self-presentation motivation, and exercise dependence behaviors. A total of 983 questionnaires were distributed, and 955 questionnaires were returned with 927 valid samples. The average age of the participant was 36.17 (SD=9.48), including 205 male and 722 female participants. A two-way multivariate analysis of variance and Pearson's correlation analysis were adopted for data analysis. Results: (1) The patterns of continuance, tolerance, and intention effects were significant differences between different body satisfaction and self- presentation motivation. The post-hoc test shows that aerobic dance participants have high/low body satisfaction with a high self-presentation motivation score performed more positive on the aforementioned three variables than those who with a low self-presentation motivation. Also, the low self-presentation motivation with a high body satisfaction score performed more positive on the aforementioned three variables than those who with a low body satisfaction score. The patterns of withdrawal, continuance, tolerance, and reduction in other activities were significant differences between different body satisfaction. The post-hoc test shows that aerobic dance participants with a high body satisfaction score performed more positive on the aforementioned three variables than those who with a low body satisfaction score. (3) Aerobic dance participants with high self-presentation motivation performed more positive on the behavior in all dimensions of exercise dependence than those who with low self-presentation motivation. (4) There are significant positive correlations between body satisfaction, self-presentation motivation, and exercise dependence. Conclusions: Body satisfaction and self-presentation motivation are two important factors in explaining exercise dependence. Furthermore, when people who participating aerobics exercise with the goal of ”weight control” and ”self-image development” and having the behavior of excessive exercise could take the risk of being exercise dependence.
