Purposes: due to the fact that the current official symbol notation, released by International Gymnastics Federation, is not only unable to cover all the movements but too complicated, the purpose of this study is to investigate how D-Panel judges can best use the improved version to record a gymnast's routine. Method: the researcher, having long served as judges for the international gymnastics competitions and explored with a number of highest ranking judges about the system of symbolic recording, has simplified and improved the current symbol of notion, according to the above-mentioned experience, and created a new version, the number of elements notation, which has been applied in international competitions to record the gymnasts's routines. Results: the number of elements notation, which helps to both quickly record the routines and clearly show the element groups, facilitating the judges to score, has been accepted and highly praised. Conclusions: the researcher suggests the judges well memorize the numbers of elements, using the new version as symbol of notation, and thus accurately record all the routines without misjudgments.
