馬來西亞扼控麻六甲海峽連接南中國海的國際海上交通線，地緣戰略上可以在南中國海爭端中扮演要角，並維護區域安全與和平。但是，馬來西亞國防問題上最大的癥結是「人」的問題，因應廣闊和風險極高的周邊海域，兵力薄弱的海、空軍和老舊、數量少的武器裝備，戰力明顯不足。此外，軍隊中仍然存在種族偏見，成員中馬來人數量優勢與非馬來人的比例落差極大，軍中的人力資源管理和武器裝備發展兩者間的步調無法協調一致，影響整體戰力的提升。
英文摘要

Malaysia has controlled the international SLOCs linking the Straits of Malacca to the South China sea, and is strategically able to play na important role in the South China Sea dispute and maintain regional security and peace. However, the key point of Malaysia's national defense problem is the problem of ＂people,＂ due to the vast and high risk of the surrounding sea, the weak strength of the Navy, Air Force and the old, small number of weapons and equipment, the military capabilities is clearly insufficient. In addition, there is still racial prejudice in the military, the pace between military human resources management and weapons and equipment development cannot be coordinated, affecting the overall military capabilities.
