We shall start with how the American Black Ships opened up Japanese ports. We then describe how the two countries encountered each other in the Pacific during the second half of the nineteenth century. Further, we will observe how the United States had perceived as a potential threat on the eve of the twentieth century. In Addition, we will look into how the two interact before the Outbreak of World War I. In the following, we shall examine how Japanese immigrants met racism entering the United States. Finally, we will analyze their relationships from the end of World War I to the 1930s.
