Enhancing Logistical Competitiveness of Taiwan in Cross-Strait Economy by Arranging of a New Business Model

With ever-increasing growth on bilateral trade across the Taiwan Strait, it is argued in this paper that, contrary to conventional wisdom, urgency of cross-strait ”Three Direct Links” may be on the wane. Instead, it is proposed that Taiwan may still leverage on this situation and enhance its global competitiveness. Incidentally, it is found that Taiwan business firms have already adapted itself to the political economy of cross-strait relationship mostly by the vehicle of so-called investing and trading via third place. However, with some second best condition associated with this present model, a new business model incorporating the framework of global logistics is being envisioned. Potential performance of this new model will be elaborated, and policy required for successful execution of this new model will also be put forward.
