本研究之目的，旨在了解高爾夫運動在台發展歷程，透過文獻蒐集、分析與比對，將台灣高爾夫發展歷程劃分成四個時期，分別爲日治時期（1918-1945年）、戰後重建期（1945-1965年）、豐收期（1965-1988年）及衰退期（1988-2007年）。以球場開發、組織發展及參賽成績三者爲探究之主體，所得結論如下：一、日治時期，台灣高爾夫發展奠定良基；二、海外習業、薪火相傳，戰後台灣得以迅速重回發展之路；三、軍、政協持，穩建發展，進軍國際初現曙光；四、名揚國際，穩固亞洲高壇霸主，中華高協功不可沒；五、商業掛帥，弊案叢生，社會形象重創，賽事贊助裹足不前；六、協會分家，整合無效，基層培育青黃不接，台灣實力大幅滑落。展望未來，要恢復昔日榮景，個人建議如下：一、高爾夫界應團結一致，積極推廣公益慈善活動，重塑社會形象；二、爭取國際大型賽事來台舉辦，提昇國內高球水準，免除邊緣化之危機；三、整合社會各界資源，擬定有效可行、且具國際視野的基層培育計畫；四、融入學校體育教學，廣植高爾夫人口；五、擬定政策，廣建公共球場，落實高爾夫平民化。

The purpose of this research aims to trace the rise and decline of golfing in Taiwan. Through the investigation and analysis of golfing history, we divide the golf development into main four periods-Importing period (1918-1945), Rebuilding after World War Ⅱ (1945-1965), Achievements in International Contests (1965-1988), Division and Decline (1988-2007). From the four periods mentioned above, we conclude six crucial turning points that caused the rise and decline of golfing in Taiwan. 1) The period of Japanese colonial, golfing set a prospective foundation. 2) After WWII, with the contribution from players who went abroad for further learning of golf skills, golfing returned to the ordinary track rapidly. 3) Meanwhile, golfing associations developed steadily and had outstanding performances in international contests with the support from the military and government. 4) Because of the contribution of golf associations, golfing in Taiwan took the leading place among Asian countries. 5) Due to the impact of scandals, the image of golfing had been seriously ruined. 6) Golf associations divided up and a huge gap of golfing education revealed. As a result, some suggestions are made as followings. First of all, golf associations should be integrated and engage in more activities for public welfare to rebuild social image. In the second place, golf associations should strive for more international big-scaled contests to be held in Taiwan. Moreover, golf associations should make up practical and international golfing education plans. In addition, golf associations should encourage golfing as part of PE courses in schools of all levels. Last but not the least, government should make up policies and build public golf courses to popularize golfing.
