隨著癌症病人生命存活的延長，主要照顧者負荷相關議題也漸漸受到重視。繁重的病人照顧及多重的角色易引起照顧負荷，進而造成照顧者身心失衡，長期下來甚至會對家庭關係及社會造成重大影響。本文對癌症主要照顧者的照顧負荷及相關因素進行國內外文獻探討，結果顯示癌症病人主要照顧者有中高度的照顧負荷情形。影響照顧負荷的主要因素為病人的癌症類型、照護依賴性、照顧者性別、家庭關係，及社交活動等。期望未來社會大眾及政府單位能對主要照顧者的照顧負荷加以重視，進一步提供多元可使用的資源，或制定相關政策，以降低照顧負荷對主要照顧者健康的負面影響。
