兒童食道狹窄導致吞嚥困難而無法經口進食，會影響到兒童的營養攝取，導致體重無法增加並影響患童生理發展，若是給予暫時性胃造廔提供灌食管道，家屬除了要護理造廔口與造廔管外，其照護壓力較大將嚴重影響其生活品質。近來因鼻內視鏡與兒童小管徑內視鏡的發展，使得兒童內視鏡食道擴張術已廣為用來治療兒童食道狹窄症，大大改善這類孩童經口進食的困擾，增加攝取量改善營養狀態，進而改善患童成長發育狀況。
