Background: In the past ten years, cerebrovascular diseases have been ranked among the top ten causes of death in Taiwan. Even after treatment, there were still different degrees of sequelae, among which the impact on motor function was the most significant. According to the research, the probability of falling after stroke within half a year could be as high as 75%. The sequelae or subsequent disability caused by falling is a heavy burden to the patient or family, which in turn affected the quality of life. Moreover, improvement of balance could also improve posture stability and reduce the occurrence of falling. Therefore, the author conducted an empirical evidence on "whether Tai Chi can improve balance in stroke patients". Purpose: To explore whether Tai Chi can improve balance in stroke patients by evidence-based medicine methods. Methods: PICO was used to formulate Chinese and English keywords and used the keywords to research the literatures in databases including PubMed, Cochrane Library and CEPS Chinese electronic journal service, and CASP checklist was used to evaluate the literature. Result and Conclusion: After the literature searching, a total of three systematic reviews and meta-analyses literatures were included and evaluated. Two of the studies showed that Tai Chi can significantly improve the balance ability of stroke patients. In addition, Tai Chi was not only easy to perform, but also required no extra cost and special equipment. Therefore, it was suggested that a set of implementation norms could be formulated based on this research and applied to stroke patients and their families in health education.
