This study investigated all routines and exercises of finalists in World Championship and Olympic pommel horse events aiming to understand the current trends of techniques in pommel horse events. This study used descriptive statistics and film observation to record the number of movements and point values in the whole movement sets of finalists in World Championship and Olympic pommel horse events. The result of our study shows that finalists in World Championship and Olympic pommel horse events have similar performance trends in terms of their number of group movements and group movement point values for their whole routines. In both cases, Group IV ranked the highest, followed by Group III. This study discovered that outstanding international athletes mostly perform FLOPS assembly, Russian Wendeswing, Wu Guonian, and Tong Fei in their routines. Additionally, forward (backward) scissor and swings with spindles and handstands are also widely used.
